Facial Rejuvenation Surgery
Blepharoplasty (Eye lift)
A blepharoplasty, or eyelift, removes excess skin and fat on the upper or lower eyelid with a simple procedure and gives you a whole new look! In an upper blepharoplasty, I’ll make incisions in the natural crease of your upper eyelid so that it hides very well and remove excess skin over your eye.
If you have “bags” under your eyes or excess skin on the lower lid, I will make an incision just under the lashes on the lower lid to remove the excess fat and skin. This gives the lower lid a beautiful, smooth appearance.
What to expect:
Recovery for a blepharoplasty is relatively simple. The procedure can be done under “twilight” sedation or local anesthesia and discomfort is minimal. You may experience some bruising and swelling around the eyes, but this is generally gone or easy to hide by the time all of the sutures come out at 7 days.
Facelift and Supporting Procedures
Facial rejuvenation is a term that encompasses all of the possible procedures that can be utilized to restore a youthful look. It includes facelift, browlift, blepharoplasty (eye lift), face and neck liposuction and cheek or chin implants. Laser resurfacing is frequently used with these procedures, but will be discussed in non-surgical procedures. These can be combined to tailor the best plan for you.
We all want to look as young and energetic as we feel! Even with the best genes, gravity, sun exposure, and time will eventually contribute to signs of aging. A facelift tightens sagginess and removes excess skin restoring your external appearance to reflect the way you feel.
With my techniques, you will look naturally refreshed, not overdone. Your friends will notice that you look good, but will not be able to know exactly why, unless you want them to!
A facelift specifically addresses your cheeks and neck. Some areas of your face that you might be concerned with may not enhanced by a facelift. If this is the case for you, we can discuss other procedures you might want done at the same time.
In addition to the lift:
Combining procedures allows the person to get the best final outcome by addressing more than one cause of aging with the least amount of downtime.
If you feel like you have:
- Volume loss in the temples and cheeks
- Sagging eyes or brows
- Diminished skin quality
What many people do not realize is the significant effect of “volume loss” that comes with aging. As the skin and muscle becomes thinner, youthful fat pads in the temples and cheeks become less prominent and the face becomes more “hollow.” Lost volume can be replaced with cheek implants or soft tissue filler. Some people may benefit from a brow lift or eyelift if they have low brows or excess skin or fat around the eyes. Also, the facelift acts to lift but does not change the quality of the skin. The CO2 laser resurfaces the skin which smooths the fine lines around the mouth, in the crow’s feet area, on the forehead or on the cheeks.
After the procedure:
You must plan for recovery time. You can expect:
- A dressing around your face and small plastic drains for the first night to prevent fluid accumulation.
- Minimal pain, but energy loss for a week or more from anesthesia.
- Swelling and bruising that is usually resolved in 2-3 weeks.
- Frequent postoperative visits to ensure that you are progressing well.
If you have a big event, plan for about 4 weeks of recovery, just in case. The incisions are hidden in natural creases and fade so that they are difficult to see.
How long does it last?
Unfortunately, we cannot stop the aging process, so some people will want to be freshened up in about 10 years, sometimes longer.
As we age, gravity naturally pulls our skin down, even the skin around our eyes. Heavy eyelids tend to be genetic. However, this can be more evident as we age. Some people feel like they look “tired” or “angry” as their brows sag or their eyes appear droopy. If you’re not sure if this has happened to you, look at pictures of yourself from 10 or more years and see if you notice a difference.
A brow lift is useful in restoring the brows to their previous position to give a natural, rested look. I perform the procedure under general anesthesia. The endoscopic procedure allows me to elevate the brow through small incisions under the hair so any scaring isn’t visible. There may be some bruising and edema but it should go away in 10-14 days.
Face and Neck Liposuction
A “double chin” is common concern and can’t be remedied with dieting or exercising. ”Chipmunk” cheeks can also be a concern. Both are due to fat collection in those areas. Just like fat around your stomach or bottom, we can remove it to give you a more sculpted face.
To perform the liposuction or lipectomy procedures, I make small incisions under the chin and behind each earlobe, remove the excess fat, and close the incision. There is minimal post-operative discomfort. If there is excess skin or a “turkey waddle” in addition to fat deposits, a facelift may be necessary. Also, a chin implant may be necessary for a weak chin.
With age, the volume in our cheeks diminishes and the skin around the cheeks can descends, giving us the dreaded nasolabial folds. Restoring cheek volume keeps you looking younger for longer!

Cheek implants or fillers (short term) replace the lost volume and lift the midface providing a great way to stay looking young and refreshed.
To avoid visible scaring, I insert cheek implants through the mouth between the gums and cheek. After the surgery, the cheeks will be swollen and you will have some tightness. You may have some difficulty chewing initially. Five days after the procedure, I’ll remove the sutures. As the swelling resolves, you will see your new, natural look.
Chin implants are rising with increased popularity of social media. Since we see ourselves from different angles with “selfies”, we notice our profile and how much difference a proportional chin makes.
What people are seeing, but can’t identify, is that a weak chin can significantly affect facial harmony. You may feel your nose is too large or “beak like,” or you may be perceived as not having as strong character. The source of these concerns can actually be a weak chin.
Chin implantation is a relatively simple procedure that can give you a whole new profile. It is routinely performed with other procedures, like nose surgery, facelift or liposuction.
In most cases, I insert chin implants through your mouth so you won’t have any visible scaring. This technique also allows creation of a small, precise pocket for the implant to stay exactly where I place it.
After the procedure, a bandage is placed over the chin for five days. Pain is minimal and controlled with medication. You will need to eat soft foods for the first week. After several weeks, you probably won’t even be able to feel the implant.
Chin implantation has a very high record of safety and satisfaction. Many people do not think about chin implantation before the initial consultation, but very pleased with impact on their profile and is frequently their “favorite” part of their outcome.
