Dr. Sturm will make very small incisions beneath the chin and behind each earlobe. Excess fat is removed with the liposuction device, and the incisions are closed with sutures. If there is excess skin in the area, a facelift usually accompanies face and neck liposuction.
Recovery from face and neck liposuction is typically one week. You will have a dressing the first night. Then, you will wear a sling that looks like a headband all the time for the first week and just at night for two weeks after that to help the skin adhere to your improved contours.
Scarring is minimal, as the incisions are less than an inch in length. The scars are hidden well and will fade significantly with time.
There is no pain during surgery, as general anesthesia is used. Patients can control post-surgery discomfort with pain medication.
