Other Non-Surgical Procedures

Lip Augmentation

What says youth better than plump, pouty lips?

Soft tissue fillers, like Restylane or Juvederm can be injected into the lip border to give a more defined lip and prevent lipstick spreading or in the red portion to restore volume.  Fillers last for about 9-12 months.  Our injecting techniques gives a full, pouty lip, but never overdone. Placement of a dermal graft is a simple procedure that provides augmentation for 5 years or more.  Other options include a lip lift or a lip advancement.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Wrinkles and sun damage are reversed creating fresh, new skin! Laser resurfacing removes the top layer of skin and the sun damage, wrinkles and pigmentation changes as well. The CO2 laser vaporizes the damaged skin at a precise level.

The CO2 laser vaporizes the damaged top layer of skin, allowing new skin to grow from around the hair follicles and surrounding areas.

This ability to almost “start over” allows us to treat not only wrinkles and sun damage, but scars from trauma, surgery or acne, keratosis or syringomas. In addition, the pores are smaller and texture is better. One of the areas that changes most dramatically are the lines around the mouth, where many people show aging (especially smokers). But the entire face can benefit greatly–anywhere that you have wrinkles can be treated effectively. This is also one of the best treatments for rhinophyma –the condition that some men get that enlarges the tip of the nose with bumps.

What’s crucial to remember about this kind of treatment is that its success depends greatly on the skill of the surgeon using the laser. You need to choose a doctor who’s well-trained and experienced. Because this is a very technique-dependent laser, your doctor should be someone who does laser skin resurfacing on a regular basis.

Laser Hair Removal LIGHTSheer™

Want smooth skin without having to shave or wax? The LIGHTSheer Duet laser is effective on all skin types and virtually painless, unlike the older lasers! Because the hair must be treated when it is in the growth phase, between 5 and 7 treatments are necessary. The LIGHTSheer technology enables fast treatments that can be done on a lunch break, making permanent hair reduction convenient.

Diolite Laser

Visible vessels on the cheeks or the nose is a common problem. The Diolite laser quickly and virtually painlessly eliminates them. Each vessel is specifically treated focusing the effects on the vessels, not the surrounding skin. The Diolite laser can also be used to hasten the recovery of bruises. If you have a bruise from bumping a table, surgery or injections, we can help them fade faster.

Tattoo / Birthmark Removal

Have a tattoo that you don’t want anymore? The Q Switched Ruby (QSR) or Q Switched Yttrium-Alluminum Garnet (YAG) Laser, used to get rid of brown age spots, liver spots, tan birthmarks, and unwanted tattoos, is fast and effective and FDA approved for tattoo removal.

Even tattoos and brown spots that can be stubborn with other lasers can clear almost completely with the QSR/QS YAG.

How does it work?

The Q-switched Ruby (QSR) or Q-switched YAG laser is able to remove many types of tattoos–decorative, medical, and traumatic–with very little if any change to the skin. The tattoo ink in the dermal skin layer selectively absorbs a short pulse of intense red light emitted by the laser. This laser energy causes the ink to fragment into several smaller pigment particles that are then removed by the body’s immune system.

What is the ideal tattoo or birthmark?

The QSR or QS YAG laser can significantly lighten or remove most tattoo inks as well as blue, black or brown birthmarks. How well your tattoo responds depends on several factors. For example, amateur tattoos usually contain less ink than professional tattoos and they respond more quickly to treatments. Older tattoos generally take fewer treatments. Since we have access to multiple lasers for tattoo and birthmark removal we can address a multitude of colors.

Any contraindications?

The Q-switched Ruby (QSR) laser is not recommended for darker skinned patients because this could result in permanent hypo-pigmentation. This laser is also not recommended on tattoos that contain iron oxide, such as cosmetic tattoos like eyeliner or eyebrows.  The Q Switched YAG can be used on a darker skinned people because it has less chance of hypopigmentation.

Does It Hurt?

We use topical (cream) anesthetic as well as injected local anesthetic to make the treatment comfortable.

What Happens After The Treatment?

Immediately after laser exposure, the treated area turns white and swells slightly. This whiteness usually fades within 20 to 60 minutes. Over the next several days a scab or thin crust may form. The area usually returns to normal in seven to ten days.

Are There Alternatives?

Other options include surgical excision (cutting the tattoo out), dermabrasion or chemical peels. These methods can be painful, expensive and may result in scarring.

During your consultation, we will discuss the number of treatments you will need and the results you can expect.
